Winter at the cottage

Winter was late this year but it finally came! We woke up this morning to a wonderful snowy winter wonderland! It didn't snow a little... it snowed a lot! Enough to go sledding right after breakfast and a nice long walk admiring the trees' gorgeous white fluffy coats.

Back inside it was time for a cozy fire and some hot cocoa! Wonderful!

The winter season is officially in full swing and we have plenty of dates still available for rent. We are located in the heart of the Laurentians just minutes away from tubing and skiing down Mont Avila, shopping and skiing in Saint-Sauveur and more skiing and winter sports in Morin-Heights.

Looking forward to welcoming you into our home and sharing the splendor of Sainte-Anne-des-Lacs with you.

Fall at the cottage

Fall at the cottage

The leaves are slowly starting to blush and the air at night is slightly cooler. Soon we'll be thinking of flannel sheets and a cup of hot cocoa in front of the fireplace.  Fall...my favorite of all the seasons... full of wonderful crisp evenings roasting marshmallows over the fire, admiring the gorgeous changing of the leaves and long walks in the country undisturbed by those pesky Spring/Summer mosquitoes.

Vie de chalet

Day 3 of the New Year at the chalet and what a wonderful start to the year!

Family time, sledding, exploring the woods, a little shopping in Saint-Sauveur and a cup of hot delicious cocoa by the fire is kind of hard to beat.

You don't need to be a skiier or a snowshoer to enjoy the wonders of winter in the Laurentians. Of course if you do ski or snowboard, the hills are a mere minutes away and there are miles and miles of trails to snowshoe and cross country ski just outside our door.  If you are a skater, there is nothing better than the scenery on the frozen lake. Sledding is your thing? Mont Avila...but the slope in front of the lake is just as fab!

If you are looking for a little winter getaway ...this is the place to be. We are looking forward to meeting you!

OUTDOORS

Skiing is not for everyone but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the outdoors in winter. There are plenty of other outdoor activities one can enjoy.

The cottage is located in the heart of the Laurentians with beautiful snowshoeing trails just steps away. For families with young children there is sledding at Mont Avila or better yet, a visit to the Village du Père Noël .

Once the lake has completely frozen over, you can also skate on the lake or, if you prefer, the skating rink in the village next to the library.

And after a day of outdoor activities, there is a huge selection of cafés and restaurants just minutes away including Second Cup, Broadway Cheesecake, Tim Horton's , and Brûlerie des Monts , just to name a few.

FUN

FUN...it's relative ...it means something different for everyone. For us, the cottage is the epitome of FUN. It's a place where we get together with friends, a place to relax and enjoy ourselves, a place to recharge our batteries.

For the kids the cottage means outdoor fun. In the summer, that means kayaking, swimming, tadpoles, inchworms, all the beautiful little chipmunks and other little forest animals too numerous to count. In the winter it means SLEDDING!!!!! The kids love to slide down the various slopes all around the cottage. There is also fort building and snowball fights, snowshoeing, skiing and skating on the lake (once M. Therrien, our chef du lac,  gives us the green light of course.)

For me it's watching my kids explore nature rather than being plugged into technology 24/7. It's also quiet...there is a lot to be said about quiet.

If you are looking for a fun place to spend some time recharging your batteries or exploring the outdoors and all that the Laurentians have to offer, we are now taking reservations for the winter/ski season. Please visit our Promotions page as well as our Rates and Availability page and our Calendar.

COZY

Cozy...that warm fuzzy feeling you get when all is right in the world and you're in a happy place...that's the cottage. Whether you're in the kids' room or in the kitchen or in the mezzanine master or better yet sipping a cup of coffee admiring the view of the lake from the living room, every nook and cranny of the cottage just oozes coziness.

I knew from the first moment I saw a picture of the cottage that it was the one...the hubby not so much. We had to look at a few others before I put my foot down and told him I wanted to see "my cottage". Well don't you know, he was the first to walk through the door and within seconds he said "this is the one"... I could have killed him.

We stayed for 2 hours that day ...we did NOT want to leave! The kids didn't want to leave! It was a match made in heaven. Two months later the cottage was ours.

We had asked the previous owner if she could leave us the beds she had upstairs until our beds came in. I remember the first couple of weeks, the 4 of us camping out on the two mattresses stuck together in the middle of the empty living room. It was so exciting and yes even then it was cozy!

The cottage has changed a lot since then but the feelings have not.

HEAVEN

Heaven is the first word that comes to mind when I think of the lake house. Peace is a close second. Even with my children screaming (at times) and running around (at times) it is still a place where all my troubles just wash away and I feel totally relaxed.

I look forward to spending weekends admiring the view of the lake while cooking a meal for my family or sipping a cup of coffee in front of the fire.

We've had the cottage now since April 2014 and I look forward to each season, rushing up every weekend to see what has changed , talk to my awesome neighbours and just drink in the total serenity of the place.

I have been sharing my cottage adventures on my Facebook page Au Chemin de la Paix and will now be blogging about them on our website.

Enjoy!
